On Monday night, the Dallas Mavericks played the Chicago Bulls for a chance to extend their winning streak to three games in a row. After dismantling the Pistons in Detroit, the Mavericks were looking for yet another big win on the road.
Against Chicago, the Mavs dominated all 48 minutes from tip-off to the final buzzer. A collective team effort led to the 127-92 victory over the Eastern Conference opponent. After struggling in his previous three games, rookie center Dereck Lively II set the record straight with his career-high 22-point performance.
Since getting the starting nod for the last few games for the Mavericks, Daniel Gafford has continued to prove why he should be the starter moving forward. Gafford hasn’t just dominated over this multiple-game stretch, but he is also quickly zeroing in on making history.
Former Mavericks forward quickly learned why you shouldn’t talk trash to Luka Doncic
On Monday, Gafford went 9-9 from the field and has now made 28 consecutive field goals, making him just seven shy of Wilt Chamberlin’s record of 35 field goals made without missing.
Despite Gafford inching closer to making history, superstar Luka Doncic has been making history over the last week as well. Doncic recorded the most 30-point triple-doubles in a row, with six in the win against the Pistons, and extended his triple-double streak to seven against the Bulls.
More recently, Mavericks assistant GM Michael Finley went on 105.3 The Fan to discuss a fun moment that Doncic and former Mav Grant Williams had in practice.
According to Finley, Williams had been getting on Doncic all practice long for his lack of energy and effort throughout the day. During the team’s scrimmage, Williams continued to talk trash up and down the court while guarding Doncic.
Doncic responded to the trash-talking Williams by going on a 26-6 run by himself. According to Finley, Doncic showcased it all. Threes, post-ups, and floaters during his 26-6 run. This became yet another case as to why you shouldn’t poke the bear.

Doncic has been on a tear recently, so having Finley tell this story during Doncic’s triple-double streak makes it even funnier. The Mavericks return to action on Wednesday night when they take on the Golden State Warriors.
