The San Francisco 49ers are set to pay their backup quarterback nearly double what starting quarterback Brock Purdy will make in base pay for the 2024 season. The 49ers signed Josh Dobbs to be Purdy’s backup for the 2024 season.

After the signing, the 49ers didn’t disclose the amount of money they were paying Dobbs on the one-year deal. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the deal was nearly $3 million with playtime incentives. One would understand why the 49ers would want to keep the deal a secret. Dobbs is making significantly more money than Purdy.
As previously discussed on GH, Purdy made $870,000 in base pay last season. Mr. Irrelevant added another $739,795 due to performance-based pay. Purdy made about $400,000 less than Dobbs, who made $2 million for the 2023 season.
Dobbs will make more money than Brock Purdy in the 2024 season
Dobbs earned a pay raise last season based on his performance on the field. Per Over The Cap, Dobbs signed a contract worth $2,250,000 for the 2024 season, all of which is guaranteed. Purdy will make a little less than half of Purdy’s figure. He is set to make $1,004,253 for the 2024 season.
Purdy can add to that total with performance-based pay in the upcoming season. However, he still won’t make what Dobbs is to hold a clipboard.
Purdy’s future extension with the 49ers was discussed during the annual league meeting last week. It’s fair to say his next contract will be nearly twenty times what Dobbs will make in a given season.
Dobbs can pay for lunch until then.
