NFL Trade Rumors: Raiders Linked to Bears’ Justin Fields Ahead of Free Agency 2024

The Las Vegas Raiders are likely to be one of the teams interested in quarterback Justin Fields if the Chicago Bears decide to trade him, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler named the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings as other teams likely to be part of the market for Fields.

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has previously indicated the team will work to pick up a quarterback this offseason rather than sticking with Aidan O’Connell, who made 10 starts his rookie season after veteran Jimmy Garoppolo was benched.

The Raiders are expected to cut Garoppolo this offseason, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“You don’t want to put a Band-Aid at that position,” Pierce said on Feb. 28, per The Athletic’s Vic Tafur. “We’ve seen that enough in this organization.”

It is unclear if Fields, who will cost just over $6 million against the cap in 2024 in the final year of his rookie deal, will be that long-term solution. His new team will get to decide whether to pick up his 2025 club option, which Spotrac projects will cost $25.6 million.

In a season limited by a thumb injury, Fields played 13 games in 2023, amassing a 5-8 record and 2,562 passing yards for 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

A poll of eight NFL executive and coaches recently conducted by The Athletic’s Jeff Howe found that most people in the league expect the Bears to receive a second- or third-round pick in return for Fields, although ESPN’s Courtney Cronin projected last week that he could net both a second- and fourth-round selection.

Fowler added that there is also “plenty of smoke” surrounding a potential trade that would send Fields to the Falcons.

“As one league source put it, Atlanta has done enough work on Fields, Cousins and Baker Mayfield that the chances of coming away with one of them are fairly good,” Fowler wrote.

Fowler referred to March 13, when teams can begin signing free agents, as a “soft” deadline for the Bears’ potential trade.
