The Sabres are continuing to be viewed as a possible trade partner for this Jets star.
Winnipeg Jets winger Nikolaj Ehlers is entering the summer as one of the NHL’s top trade candidates. The skilled forward will be in the final season of his deal in 2024-25, so there’s an expectation that the Jets will listen to offers for him this offseason.
In a recent article for The Athletic, Murat Ates discussed six potential trade destinations for Ehlers, and the Buffalo Sabres made the cut.
We at The Hockey News Sabres discussed Ehlers as a potential trade target last week, and it’s not surprising that we are not the only ones who feel that way. On paper, Ehlers looks like a great fit for the Sabres.
It has been established that the Sabres want to add a top-six scoring winger to their roster. Ehlers would provide them with precisely that. The 28-year-old is coming off a strong 2023-24 season, posting 25 goals, 61 points, and a plus-27 rating in 82 games. He has also scored at least 20 goals in seven out of his nine NHL seasons.
The Sabres have the assets to bring in a player like Ehlers, as they have a deep prospect pool. However, with Ehlers entering a contract year, the Sabres would need to be okay with losing him during the 2025 NHL Offseason if he wants to test the market.
